The sum of all walls, more or less
(Die Summe aller Wände, so ungefähr)
Supervisor: Prof. Nadja Mayer
Corrections: Sunbul Dubuni
I write from in-between, moving transversally across countries, languages, and memories. In autofictional vignettes and short stories, I explore what “home” can mean when you’ve had more than one, or have lost one. These texts reflect on questions of othering, identity, power, and cultural hybridity. They are often plain, direct, sometimes ironic, and written from a transcultural perspective.
The book is accompanied by a second volume of found photography: images from family archives, flea markets, and other private or public repositories. These photographs do not illustrate the texts. They stand beside them as parallel forms of memory, loss, and projection. This hybridity of text and image is not only understood in terms of cultural belonging, but also in terms of form: where word and image co-exist, both fractured and overlapping, both unreliable, but emotionally sincere.
